ADVOCACY & AWARENESS

The Cerebral Palsy Foundation is a strong and powerful voice for the 17,000,000 people around the world with cerebral palsy and their families. We have global commitment to increasing awareness and support for cerebral palsy public policy, research and investment in order to improve health outcomes and quality of life.

We lead the way in educating and advocating for US federal funding for national cerebral palsy initiatives across the lifespan including the establishment of a national cerebral palsy research agenda, early detection and diagnosis, surveillance, translational research, adult care, genomics, physical activity, regenerative medicine and much more.

The Cerebral Palsy Foundation also partners with global entities including the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the United Nations to improve lives around the world. Awareness and Advocacy go hand in hand to create positive change. Our awareness initiatives, including US National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day and the #GoGreen4CP movement, highlight the critical public health need that there is much more to be done to improve long term outcomes and increase community support services so people with cerebral palsy can lead their very best lives.

Our Advocacy Initiatives

National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day – March 25th

Since 2006, March 25th has been as designated National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day. Cynthia Frisina, Senior VP of Strategic Partnerships at the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, and past co-founder of Reaching for the Stars. A Foundation of Hope for Children with Cerebral Palsy (RFTS) , created this national awareness day to focus on the lack of research and progress in the treatment of Cerebral Palsy despite CP being the most common lifelong motor disability. Through the merger of CPF and RFTS in 2019 we have strengthened our ability to bring cerebral palsy awareness to the forefront in the United States including establishing the #GoGreen4CP movement, community involvement nationwide and educational events.

US Federal Advocacy: Urge Congress To Increase Cerebral Palsy Research Investment

Our US Advocacy efforts currently focus on increasing federal investment supporting cerebral palsy research initiatives at the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Cerebral Palsy research is vastly underfunded despite impacting more than 1,000,000 Americans and more than 17,000,000 people worldwide.

The Cerebral Palsy Foundation works year round with key lawmakers, policy makers, government agencies and other stakeholders to educate and draft language to ensure cerebral palsy research is prioritized and the voice of the cerebral palsy community is heard and taken into account.
